Holacracy From A Wealth Advisor’s Multi-Year Perspective

“What I’m learning…is how the collective is so brilliant and Holacracy actually enables people’s light to shine….How can the fire of life burn more brightly in all of us? And I would say Holacracy is the scaffolding that enables that.”

Gayle Colman and I had a chat about Holacracy implementation. While our discussion (58 minutes) covered multiple topics, we dug deep and talked about the kind of leader and company that’s a fit for Holacracy, because Holacracy is not for everyone.

Gayle is the founder of The Colman Knight Advisory Group, LLC an innovative wealth advisory firm. For them, the essence of a wealthy life is about creating prosperity and meaning that aligns with the values and passions of their clients.

Colman Knight has been practicing Holacracy since 2011 because it encourages dynamic steering, flexibility, and a dedication to efficiency rather than titles.

While most traditional financial firms assign one team member to each client, Colman Knight does the opposite.

Each client has the chance to to speak with all of the different team members at different times, depending on the client’s needs and team Member’s unique expertise. This places the client’s needs first, is more efficient, and inspires the entire team to find the best way to serve their clients.

    This is Holacracy in action.

This is not business-as-usual.

So I asked Gayle what kind of company and / or leader could give Holacracy a try, since it’s been successfully implemented in a range of diverse industries: manufacturing, tech, finance, food, non-profit, environmental, and government.

For her, it’s a leader who:

• is passionate about bringing in the collective intelligence and wants other perspectives in the mix; and

• wants decisions to be made at the level they need to be made (which is normally the person doing the job).

Within the organization, there is the ability and opportunity to:

• give and receive feedback;

• speak authentically and to work effectively with another team member;

• offer constructive feedback and create new agreements;

• share appreciation; and

• listen.

“Most of us, in this world, don’t get asked, ‘what do we need, what do we want?’ Does this practice help people to evolve? Yes, it does and what’s interesting is that the learnings come every day, every meeting.

“At the end of every Tactical meeting or every Governance meeting, you harvest your learnings. And every time we go around there’s something new that we learn.

“What I’m learning…is how the collective is so brilliant and Holacracy actually enables people’s light to shine….How can the fire of life burn more brightly in all of us? And I would say Holacracy is the scaffolding that enables that.”
